The I Ching (易經), or Book of Changes, is one of the oldest texts in the world, with roots stretching back more than three thousand years. It sits at the foundation of Chinese thought and has shaped Taoism, Confucianism and classical Chinese medicine. At its heart is a simple idea: change is the only constant, and its patterns can be read.
The oracle works through 64 hexagrams — figures of six lines, each either solid (yang) or broken (yin), built from pairs of the eight trigrams. Each hexagram carries a judgment and an image, and any changing lines point to a second hexagram, describing not just where you are but the direction a situation is moving.
