Retrograde Calendar
Find every planetary retrograde for a given year on one timeline — from Mercury to Pluto — with the exact stationing dates and the retrograde windows laid out at a glance.
Retrograde is an optical effect: as Earth and another planet move at different speeds, that planet appears from here to slow, stop and drift backwards through the zodiac for a while before turning forwards again. Nothing actually reverses in space, but the apparent standstill — the "station" — and the backward loop have long been read in astrology as a time to revisit, review and refine whatever the planet governs rather than to push ahead.
Each planet retrogrades on its own rhythm. Mercury turns retrograde three or four times a year for about three weeks, touching communication, travel and plans; Venus does so roughly every eighteen months around love and values; Mars about every two years. The outer planets — Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto — spend months retrograde each year, a slower, quieter inward turn. Knowing the dates lets you plan around the stations, when a planet’s energy feels most concentrated.
GemZen's Retrograde Calendar gathers every retrograde for a chosen year onto one timeline. Pick a year and the tool plots each planet’s retrograde window as a bar across the months, grouped by planet, with a marker for today so you can see what is currently retrograde and what is coming next — the whole year’s backward motion in a single view.
How it works in GemZen
1
Pick a year
Choose last year, this year or the two years ahead. GemZen finds every planetary retrograde across those twelve months in one pass.
2
Read the timeline
Each planet’s retrograde period appears as a bar spanning the months it covers, grouped by planet, with a marker showing where today falls.
3
Plan around the stations
See how many periods there are and when each begins and ends, so you can spot overlaps and time decisions around the quieter retrograde windows.

Common questions
Is the retrograde calendar free?
Yes — a free GemZen account lets you look up every retrograde for a chosen year. Deeper interpretation and pairing retrogrades with your own chart come with paid plans.
What does it mean when a planet is retrograde?
From Earth the planet appears to move backwards through the zodiac for a time. Astrologically it is read as a period to review and refine what that planet rules, rather than a time nothing works.
How often is Mercury retrograde?
Mercury turns retrograde three or four times a year, for roughly three weeks each time. The calendar shows the exact windows for whichever year you select.
Do retrogrades cause things to go wrong?
They are a real astronomical appearance, but the meanings here are offered for reflection and entertainment — not medical, legal or financial advice.
